The cold war which can also be referred to as the silent war started after the second world war. This silent war was waged between the United states and the Soviet Union and their respective allies. It was referred to as the cold war because it did not involve actual fighting and use of weapons but was mainly waged politically, economically and along propaganda fronts. During this period, there was alot of tension between the two warring nations and their allies because of the contant threats of war and use of weapons of mass destruction against one another which actually never happened.

After the defeats of Nazi Germany and the end of the war, the soviet union endeavoured to solidify its rule in the Eastern countries and spread its communist ideology. On the other hand, as a result of the Soviets activities in Eastern Europe, USA  and Great Britain on the other hand went ahaed to put the countries in Western Europe under their influence through the Marshall plan.
