The History of Reddiars can be traced back to 14th century when they migrated from Andhra Pradesh and settled in various parts of South India near Tirunelveli district as agriculturists. This led them to food industry with distinct flavours and recipes. Thiru. R.Kandasamy Reddiar has been in food industry since 1948 for the preservation of South Indian heirloom foods. He started Hotel Valarmathi in 1964 near Meenakshi Amman Temple, Madurai. He was a pioneer in South Indian foods and these traditional delights have their blends from Andankulam (Nanguneri Thaluk, Tirunelveli) and Andhra Pradesh.
